Perfect Partners: How To Pair Your Wine With Your Food

We pride ourselves on the array of fine wines and stunning food available from our Cellar Bar. But we understand that choosing from the vast selection on offer can be a daunting task, particularly if you want to pick the best wine to compliment your meal.
That’s why we’ve put together a tailored guide so that you can choose the right wine to go with the food from our menu. But bear in mind the most important element when pairing food and wine is what tastes good to you.

Wine & Burgers

It may not be a pairing which you would think to put together but with a little consideration to the meats, you can get the right combination. In the Cellar Bar, we offer a quality 6oz beef burger, in a floured bap. We would recommend a traditional red merlot to compliment the meat. Try the Casa La Joya Merlot.
The other Windmill Burger available is the spiced chicken breast. Generally, white wine is best with white meat and we’d recommend a sweet wine for spicy flavours, so try Penfolds Private Release Chardonnay.

Wine & Steaks

If you’re planning on trying our prime Scottish steak with tomatoes, mushrooms, salad and chips then a red wine to go alongside it is a must. Choose a rich, traditional French wine for a full flavour, such as Chateau Montcabrier. And why not treat yourself to the peppercorn sauce for only an extra £2.50?

Wine & Sausages

Our quintessentially British dish of bangers & mash may have you reaching for the ale, but it can also be paired with wine. Try a Spanish red, such as the Torres Sangre De Toro Catalunya.
Check out our wine and food menus to see the full range of what we have on offer. If you’re eating out in Birmingham in the coming months, be sure to drop into the Cellar Bar. We’d be happy to advise you on all our wines and dishes.
